TOPIC GUIDE

Painting.

Whether you are refreshing a room or finishing a repair, share the surfaces, their condition, and the result you want. Preparation, access, and the areas included matter as much as the color.

WHAT TO NOTICE

Understand the problem.
Then consider the work.

01

Room refreshes

List the rooms and surfaces: walls, ceilings, doors, or trim. Mention occupied rooms, furniture, and anything that needs to remain accessible during the work.

02

After a repair

Describe new patches, stains, or unfinished surfaces before discussing paint. Ask which preparation and primer are included in the proposed work.

03

Exterior surfaces

For outside work, show the surface, height, and visible condition. The provider can assess access, preparation, materials, and scheduling requirements.

A note before the work

Loose, damaged, or unknown older coatings may require additional assessment before preparation begins. Discuss the surface condition and planned preparation instead of assuming painting is only a finish coat.

A COMMON QUESTION

Should I buy the paint before requesting an estimate?

You can share your preferred color or product first. Confirm quantities, suitability, and who supplies materials with the provider before purchasing for the project.
